Techniques des métiers d'art : impression textile

This arts and crafts course focuses on personal expression, production methods and market realities. A specialization in textile printing will enable you to work with dyes and fabrics and to design, create and produce original textile objects with a decorative or artistic function.

About the program

Program objectives
Covering personal expression, a chosen method of production and the realities of the market, this program is indeed an ambitious one. Using a material and technique of choice, artisans must create, fabricate and share works of produced objects. The manner in which the program is structured reflects the ongoing relationship between creation and the management of the resulting object.

Textile Printing
This specialization trains individuals to become artisans specialized in working with dyes and fabrics and capable of creating or producing original textile drawings or objects serving either a decorative or artistic purpose and produced as either as a single unique work or art or as part of a limited series.

Textile printing artisans analyze needs, conduct documentary and visual research, produce original textile drawings, estimate production costs and cost prices, plan production, prepare materials, create printing tools, apply key textile printing techniques and safely handle chemicals and dyes. They also do any finishing work and sewing on objects with printed fabric.

They also perform tasks related to managing projects, marketing products or works of art as well as starting-up and managing a personal or group workshop. In most cases, their work can be broken down into the following process: define and clarify problems, determine needs, conduct research, develop and put forth original solutions, evaluate and modify proposals, make products, increase customer awareness of these products and sell them.

The skills acquired as part of the program enable graduates to design and make creative and mass-produced products, use the tools, techniques and new technologies applied in the textile printing industry and use chemicals in compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.
