Agri-Environmental Horticultural Production Technology

This program trains horticultural production technologists to facilitate the practice of more sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture, whether conventional or organic, in the field or in the greenhouse.

About the program

Program objectives
This program trains individuals to become horticultural production technologists capable of meeting needs in the crop production sector. Their job mainly involves fostering agricultural practices that are more sustainable and more respectful of the environment, whether with relation to conventional farming or organic farming and whether this farming takes place in the field or in the greenhouse.

Crop production technologists are involved in various tasks depending on the type and size of company they work for: crop management, consulting services, commercial representation and research. These specialists need to take into account the numerous regulations related to crop production. Crop production includes fruit, vegetable and ornamental crops regardless of their production mode: sustainable, biological, urban, conventional, etc.

Crop production technologists work in horticultural production companies where they develop, establish and follow-up on crop management programs. They can support horticultural producers by offering consulting services and commercial representation. Technologists can also provide information, training and research activities in the horticultural field. Some technologists work for government agencies or accreditation bodies, carrying out inspections or managing grant and certification programs.

In an agro-environmental context, crop production technologists take into account the agronomic, socioeconomic and ecological aspects of crop production. Because the field of crop production is constantly evolving, technologists must adapt to sociological and technological changes related to environment protection.
