Digital Drafting Specialist

The Digital Drafting Specialist program (previously known as Computer Assisted Drafting) prepares individuals to apply basic mechanical and architectural drafting knowledge and skills to the development of technical drawings in support of related professionals.

About the program

The goal of this program is to provide a diverse population of adult learners with the opportunity to build mechanical and architectural drafting skills needed for drafting job performance. The content includes the application of advanced computer software and hardware, Computer Assisted Drafting, Computer Assisted Design and Building Information Modeling (BIM) to the creation of graphic representations and simulations in support of both engineering and architectural projects.

This certification program offers courses designed to help students acquire the necessary qualifications for an entry-level position as a CAD operator/drafter. It also aims to assist professionals already active in the industry, especially those coming from abroad, in updating their skills to integrate into the local job market.

Condition of admission

Minimum requirements

To be admitted to an ACS program, applicants must possess a Quebec Secondary School Diploma (DES) or equivalent, as well as acquired knowledge and skills deemed sufficient by the College for success in the program. They must also meet one of the following conditions:

  • Have interrupted studies for at least two consecutive terms or one school year, OR
  • Have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies spread over a year or more, OR
  • Be subject to an agreement between the College and an employer or government program, OR
  • Possess a professional studies diploma (DEP)

Applicants must also be:

  • A Canadian citizen, OR
  • Permanent resident, OR
  • Temporary Resident (with a valid study permit and Certificat de Sélection du Québec - CSQ)

In addition, applicants must qualify for Quebec Residency (living in Quebec for at least one year) or have a CSQ. To be successful in this program, candidates must have a good command of the English language.

Prerequisites

What are my options after graduating?

Graduates out of the new Digital Drafting Specialist program enter the job market as qualified drafting technicians. Working either as part of a multidisciplinary team or independently, they support the work of architects, engineers, technologists and other professionals.
